Campaign evaluation- feedback

The first screenshot shows that  my decision to make a social media account was a good one. It shows that all those who did respond believe that a social media account would be effective for the campaign in order to get a maximum following.

For this screenshot, I asked whether they believed having social media accounts for my campaign would be effective. Again, it had positive feedback, as they all believed it would be suitable for this wanting to take part.

For the next question in my questionnaire, I asked whether they believed having peoples opinions on the album (positive) would benefit me and the campaign. The response shows this would be effective and non-biased and will be helpful as a persuasive feature.

For this question, I asked whether they believed a magazine cover would be effective for my campaign. The majority vote was yes, it would be effective, either as it would catch the eye, or because they are easily accessible. The minority voted that it would be ineffective, as not many people go out their way to look at magazines. This is something I could look into to meet the specific needs of the target audience

Finally for my last question, I asked whether people believed my campaign had the potential to have a large backing. They voted yes. If people agree with the message that I'm getting across and read into it, they believe it has the potential to be a successful campaign.

The materials used in my cross platform media campaign are used through the repetitive use of the album cover. With the image used, i use similar fonts, therefore it gives the campaign good cohesion.

The campaign uses the house style to create cohesion. All three platforms have the same or similar images that make the campaign recognisable. The campaign uses similar fonts and typography for the campaign title, making it easy for the audience to identify.

The campaign message is used on all used platforms, this includes using some information and persuasive features to make sure the audience understand the information.

I believe the starting date of my campaign would be around march/April time. This is because with Noel and Liam's new albums well underway, I believe this is the perfect time. Also, with Noel and Liam touring during this period, people will want to listen to their retro music and therefore may be pay attention to my campaign.

I believe cross-platform media campaigns were very effective as the platforms created cohesion and connected the audience, by typography, fonts and colours. With the use of music guru's like Noel and Liam, I was able to grab the attention of the average music listener.

The given feedback shows the campaign was successful, especially in being persuasive and helping give knowledge to those who have doubts about the album.

Unit 6 evaluation- Instagram account

For my Instagram account, I created this, as again, it is one of the most popular forms of social media. As of September 2017, it is believed that Instagram had a total of 800 million users, out of the 800 million, there was said to be around 500 million daily users. I believe that Instagram would be very effective for my campaign as many people who would be interested in following and supporting my campaign will be able to do so.

With this Instagram account, I will look to post photos and videos regarding my campaign, explaining my choices and decisions behind the campaign. There will be short videos of songs that are on the album, as well as pictures stating quotes of peoples viewpoint on the album. My initial target will be to achieve a following of around 100 people in the first few weeks, and stretching to around 300-400 within the first month. My initial goal is to get peoples attention of this campaign, to persuade them that the album is better than what they believed.

Unit 6 evaluation- Twitter account

This screenshot was taken as soon as the account was created. First of all, I created a twitter account due to its enormous popularity. Twitter has around 974 million accounts, with around 140 million daily users. I believe a twitter account would be massively effective for the campaign, given people agree with the background of my campaign, it could gather a rather large following.

With this account, I will tweet various quotes regarding the album, other peoples opinions on the album, including celebrities who spoke for the album over the years. My overall plan would be to make the account grow to a reasonable standard within a few months. My overall goal with this twitter account is to make people consider giving the album a second chance, so people will understand the reasoning for my campaign and at least listen to the album again to prove my point.

Unit 6 evaluation, magazine cover

I chose to do a magazine cover, simply as it is available to everyone, wherever you are, no matter how old you are. This is because magazines are available both online as a PDF, and they're also available in most local shops and supermarkets. I chose to do a magazine cover because not only they are informative and persuasive, but they also stand out and catch the eye. Therefore I believed that if someone happened to be at the shop, who opposes to the point and purpose of my campaign, they may read it and give it a second chance.

My overall plan for the magazine is for it to stand out with the bright colours and fonts that it has and again, my overall goal is to get people on my side with the campaign and give the album a second chance.

Unit 6 evaluation

For my task I had to create 3 media platforms for a campaign. The 3 platforms I chose to use for my campaign were:

  • A magazine cover
  • Twitter page
  • Instagram page
Why 'Be Here Now'?

I decided to make a campaign on the album 'Be Here Now' because I believed that the album was rather underrated going by the quality of the album. I created the campaign as I have seen a few reviews giving it a bad rating etc. and seeing the album being overlooked. Therefore I believed I had to intervene and campaign for this album, and oppose to other peoples beliefs.

First of all, I decided to use a magazine cover as it quite easy accessible to the public. magazine is a publication, usually a periodical publication, which is printed or electronically published (sometimes referred to as an online magazine)

I decided to create a twitter page as twitter is a very popular form of social media. I believe that, again, a twitter profile is easily accessible. Also, I researched the amount of twitter accounts that are existing; totaling 974million, just over 1/8 of the entire population of the world. Therefore I believed it would be ideal to create a twitter page. Also, I took into the consideration the fact that social media is always rising and getting larger, so with this their could be in excess of 1billion twitter users in the next few years.

Finally, I created an Instagram page because again, they're accessible to almost everyone. Instagram is a very popular form of social media, like twitter, which is also a free application. As of September 2017, Instagram had 800 million users, it also had a 100 million increase from April 2017, which shows no signs of stopping. Therefore I believed that an Instagram account would be effective for this campaign, as many people will be able to see the campaign, and follow it.

I believe my campaign will be release in march/ April. I believe this because this is the perfect time for it to surface, with Noel and Liam currently on tour and playing songs from this album, people will want to listen to it. Also, the novelty may have worn off from both Noel and Liam's albums, which may tempt people into going back and listening to oasis, and more specifically, Be here now.

For my magazine cover, I had to find the right picture that would compliment a continuous colour scheme and a continuous use of font. The second screenshot I believe didn't suit this criteria, simply as there is a complete contrast of colours going on the picture itself, therefore it didn't seem suitable and fit for use. When it came to the other pictures, I believed they were perfect, due to the background being consistent with colours which are dark and therefore the focus could be on the text and not what was going on in the background. After carrying out several drafts, I came to the conclusion that the first draft was more suitable, as the colours match the criteria of being eye-catchy and stand out. The same can be said about the font which fits with the magazine. Also, with the third draft, the colour clashes with the background image, as opposed to the first draft, which stands out as the colour of the text opposes with the background color.

gratifications

  • The uses and gratifications model suggests audience are much more active than the hypodermic needle model would suggest

  • It suggests that an audience chooses media for their own specific needs and desires

Hypodermic needle

The hypodermic needle model suggests that the media injects a message into us, and this shapes our responses.

This theory is generally considered outdated

The hypodermic needle model suggests we are all the same and we all react the same way- we soak up messages without question.

In reality audiences can be passive (they comply with the message sent) or active

Male Gaze (Laura Mulvey)

Theorist Laura Mulvey argued that the audience (whether they are male or female) view women from the vantage point of a heterosexual man

This is called the Male Gaze

It suggests that females are objectified in the media and are there for the viewing pleasure of the camera

The male gaze is shown here as Beyonce is being sexualized for having her hands behind her head pushing in her hair up.

Also it supports the male gaze as Beyonce's skin is being exposed in the magazine, for the pleasure of the heterosexual male viewer. This carries on into films

Stereotyping

Richard Dyer wrote in the 'Role of the stereotypes' about how the complexity and diversity of a group or individual is reduced to a few limited characteristics.

  • Stereotypes exaggerate difference, which may create conflict between groups
  • The media may not invent stereotypes, but do reinforce them
  • Stereotyping is a way of imposing order on diversity by oversimplifying traits
  • Stereotypes are a way of quickly conveying info about a character
  • Seeing certain assumptions may help construct audience perception of the world
  • Identities can be constructed and communicated via stereotypes
  • Those with power stereotype the less powerful
Some people who have power can take control
